Ruffle Bedding Guide: Tatter, Petite, Crochet and Double Ruffles
Ruffle bedding is the heart of Linen Salvage et Cie. We like to say we make little girl bedding for big girls, and nothing says that like a bed framed in soft, hand gathered ruffles. But not all ruffles are the same. This guide walks through each ruffle style we make, from the long tatter ruffle to the petite baby ruffle, crochet lace and double voile ruffles, so you can find the ruffled bedding, ruffle sheets and ruffle pillowcases that feel like you.
Why our ruffles look the way they do
Every ruffle starts as cut fabric and is hand gathered. We hand cut every piece with scissors, then hand gather all our ruffles, and our seamstresses sew everything to your order in our California workroom. That hand gathering is what gives our ruffles their soft, natural fall.
The ruffle bedding styles, explained
Tatter ruffle: Clementine
A tatter ruffle is a long, flowing ruffle with a relaxed, tattered edge. Clementine is our most-loved ruffle bed: soft cotton poplin framed by a long, tatter-style ruffle that is hand cut and hand gathered in our California designer workroom. It is relaxed and romantic, the kind of bed you sink into at the end of the day.
- Clementine Tatter Ruffle Poplin Collection: the duvet and shams.
- Clementine Tatter Ruffle Poplin Sheet Set: our best-selling Clementine sheets, framed with waterfall tatter ruffles.
- Clementine Tatter Ruffle Pillowcase: an oversized, hand-gathered 100% cotton ruffle in White, Creme or Petal.
Best for: anyone who wants classic ruffle bedding that is simple and pretty. Clementine colors also work easily back to our linen collections.
Triple tier ruffle: Giselle
Giselle is our most extravagantly ruffled cotton bed. Triple tiers of soft poplin fall effortlessly around the bed, creating the ultimate soft cocoon. Each piece is crafted one at a time, hand gathered and sewn by our expert seamstresses, with tattered finishing that brings a casual California ease. Giselle has been offered in white, creme and ballet pink.

Best for: the more is more romantic who wants a statement bed.
Petite ruffle: Petite Ruffle sheets
Our sweetest sheets. The Petite Ruffle Sheet Collection is soft 100% cotton framed with a petite, hand-cut baby ruffle on the flat sheet and pillowcases. It is a gentle way to add ruffles without overwhelming a printed duvet.
Best for: layering under toile or floral print bedding, or for anyone new to ruffles.
Double ruffle: Bella
The Bella Double Ruffle Sheet Collection has two layers of tattered, featherweight cotton voile ruffles on soft cotton poplin, with stitched edges so the ruffles stay polished, never messy. Voile is lighter and airier than poplin, so a double ruffle reads soft and floaty.
Best for: ruffle sheets that feel airy and a little bit lingerie.
Crochet ruffle: Ambrosia and Anna
Ambrosia is our most over-the-top ruffle bed: soft 100% cotton poplin framed with our best-selling Anna cotton crochet lace and two full layers of hand-gathered cotton voile ruffles. Every piece is vintage garment washed for a soft, cottage look.
If you love the lace but want less ruffle, the Anna Crochet Sheets and Duvet Collection frames sheets, duvet covers and shams with a vintage-inspired, intricate wide cluny crochet edge.
Best for: a vintage cottage bedroom with heirloom details.
Pouf edge: Pouf sheets
In our Pouf Sheet Set Collection, lightweight cotton voile is softly hand gathered into a delicate pouf edge that frames the flat sheet and wraps all the way around the pillowcases.
Velvet ruffles: Isabella
For a richer ruffle, our Isabella Tatter Velvet Ruffle Collection pairs small batch dyed linen with full, rich gathered silk velvet that falls effortlessly around the bed. It is machine washable, easy to live with luxury, made in California.
Ruffle bedskirts
A ruffled bedskirt frames the base of the bed. All of our bedskirts have a 21" drop.
- Clementine Tatter Ruffle Poplin Bedskirt: hand gathered from pure cotton washed poplin into a waterfall. Creme, White or Petal.
- Estelle Double Ruffle Voile Bedskirt: pure cotton voile, fully gathered by hand.
How to choose your ruffle
- Want simple and pretty? Clementine tatter ruffle.
- Want maximum romance? Giselle or Ambrosia.
- Layering under a print? Petite Ruffle sheets or Clementine pillowcases.
- Want airy and soft? Bella double voile ruffles or Pouf sheets.
- Love vintage lace? Anna crochet or Ambrosia.
- Want a luxe texture? Isabella silk velvet ruffles.
Mixing ruffle sheets and ruffle pillowcases
You do not have to stay in one collection. A Clementine duvet with Bella sheets, or a toile duvet with Clementine pillowcases, can look beautiful together. Since we dye in small batches, products in the same color from different collections may not match each other exactly. We consider this part of the beauty of our small batch dyed style.
Caring for ruffle bedding
Our cotton ruffle bedding is easy care. Machine wash in cool water with gentle liquid soap, no bleach, then lay flat to dry or tumble dry on a cold or warm setting. Iron if desired. For Isabella and other linen and velvet bedding, wash in cold water with gentle liquid soap, no bleach, and lay flat or tumble dry cold. See our wash care page for details.
Sizes
Check our Size Guide before ordering. Note that Giselle pillowcases have a sham pocket and measure 20" x 30" (standard) and 20" x 40" (king).
