Toile Fabric by the Yard: Project Ideas
If you have fallen for our toile bedding and want to bring the same print into the rest of your home, our toile fabric by the yard lets you do exactly that. We started our Fabric Shop so you can create your own accessories and projects using the fabrics you love. Here is what our French toile fabric is, how to order it, and a few simple project ideas for blue toile fabric, pink toile fabric and more.
About our French toile fabric
Toile de Jouy is a French print style, traditionally a romantic, pastoral scene printed in a single color. The word toile simply means cloth in French. Our French Toile is designed by Judy Neu for Linen Salvage et Cie, and it is our best selling print, the same one we use on our French Toile bedding.
Here is what the product pages tell you about our toile fabric:
- Fabric: 200 thread count, 100% cotton poplin. This is the same cotton poplin we use for our bedding, cool and comfortable.
- Width: 54" (listed on French Toile Fabric in Soft Blue, Lilac, Soft Rose and Sea Glass).
- Minimum order: 3 yards.
- Printed to order: we print your fabric just for you, on either our soft linen or our cotton poplin.
- Care: machine washable in cold water, no bleach, tumble dry cool.
- Made in California.
- Final sale: all fabric orders are final sale.

Toile fabric project ideas
These are general ideas to spark your imagination. Since every project is different, plan your yardage with your pattern or your workroom, and remember our 3 yard minimum on French Toile fabric.
1. Throw pillows and pillow covers
A pair of toile pillows on a sofa or chair is one of the simplest ways to bring the print into another room. Pair them with a solid velvet pillow for texture, like our Dream Velvet Pillows.
2. Curtains and cafe curtains
Toile at the window is a classic French look. Use a print that matches or picks up a color in your toile bedding so the room feels pulled together.
3. A custom headboard or bench cushion
Ask your upholsterer about covering a headboard, bench cushion or vanity stool in toile to echo your bedding.
4. Table linens
Napkins, a table runner or a tablecloth in toile make a sweet setting for a garden lunch or a holiday table.
5. Lampshades, wall panels and small upholstery
A toile lampshade or a framed fabric panel adds a quiet touch of pattern without committing to wallpaper.
6. Handmade gifts
Our printed fabric is a lovely start for a special handmade gift: a pillow, a pouch, a sachet, a bag or a quilt block for a fellow sewer.
7. Pet beds and children's rooms
Blue toile and pink toile both suit a child's room. A small cushion, a framed fabric panel or a pet bed cover can carry the look.
Mixing toile with our other fabrics
Toile mixes beautifully with small florals, paisleys and stripes. A few other prints in our Fabric Shop:
- Vintage Paisley Linen - Rose: a small scale rustic vintage paisley on 100% linen, 54" wide, which the product page notes is perfect for curtains, pillows or other pretty gifts.
- Petite Bouquet Floral Fabric - Chambray, 100% cotton poplin designed by Judy Neu.
- Auberge Floral Fabric - Sky, our best selling Auberge print.
For quilters and sewers who want a little of everything, we also offer an assorted vintage floral prints quilters kit, a selection of our leftover big swatches from cutting our bedding. It is final sale.
Match your fabric to your bedding
Because our French Toile fabric is the same print we use on our French Toile bedding, you can sew pieces that coordinate with your bed. Browse the French Toile Print Collection to see the print on duvets, shams and pillowcases.
One thing to know: we print to order in small batches, so later print runs may vary slightly. If you want fabric and bedding to match closely, order them at the same time.
Caring for projects made with our fabric
Our French Toile fabric product pages list the care as machine washable in cold water, no bleach, tumble dry cool. If your project includes other materials, like trims, foam or lining, follow the care for the most delicate part. Our printed bedding is washed after printing so it is pre-shrunk, and the Petite Bouquet Floral fabric is listed as pre-washed and pre-shrunk. Check each fabric's product page for its details.
Ordering tips
- French Toile fabric has a 3 yard minimum.
- Fabric and swatch orders are final sale, so order a swatch first if you are unsure.
- The French Toile fabric pages say all fabrics quick ship out in 3 to 5 days. Some other fabrics, like our Vintage Paisley Linen, are printed to order and take 2 to 3 weeks. Check each product page.
