What's The Difference? The Story of Linen Salvage et Cie & Linen Salvage Luxe
Where It All Began
We often get asked about our two brands, and while they share part of the same name, their purpose and personality are uniquely different
What's the difference between them?
Back in 2012, we created our brand Linen Salvage et Cie , exclusively for a famous online retailer. We wanted the feel of the collection to be all about vintage surplus, French flea market chic.
We looked to old flour bags and a vintage nautical anchor.
Here's our very first logo from 2012.
The anchor has a happy vibe, and is simple in style. We added the little star. Stars have been in our DNA for years, and it seemed natural to add this little emblem - anchoring ourselves to the stars, this felt light and cheerful. :) (and still does)
We created our first velvet bedding called Velvet Border almost 14 years ago!t was a huge hit, nobody had mixed these two fabrics in this way, very tailored and simple, and chic.
We kept adding to the collection, and introduced a more romantic style with ruffles and beautiful details. We began to get our first press!
It was a huge hit, so we rolled out velvet throws, and invented new styes using silk velvet with our own linen, all made in California. Sheets and pillowcases of cotton poplin arrived later, and our poplin had to be durable, washable, and feel amazing.
With vintage trims, ruffles, added touches like cotton voile and mixed media fabrics, our cotton collections added foundation layers to the bed that completed the look.
We like to say we make little girl bedding for big girls.
Color & Print Arrive
After 2020, color arrived with prints designed and colored from old French toile wallpapers and documents.
Torn fragments of fabric, threadbare softly striped woven stripes, scraps of old hand printed swatches from the late 1800's and early 1900's were revitalized as new Romantic Toile bedding in pretty colors. Our French Toile Cotton Toile bedding became our #1 bed online.
This unique and colorful customer's beautiful bedroom pic features our Auberge Bedding with their collected artworks, antique pillows, chandelier and floral pantings.
Two Customers, Two Brands
We soon realized that we had 2 different customers:
-
The Luxe Collector — unabashedly obsessed with gorgeous textiles , vintage linens , loves ruffles and mixes it with chic ,tailored styles , soft florals ,toiles, rich velvets, vintage French style and wants the finest linens available.
-

So In 2023, we split the business into two different brands, Linen Salvage et Cie for our simpler cotton styles (and sold only online) and a new Luxury brand Linen Salvage Luxe for our wholesale and trade customers so they can offer our bedding to customers with an unfettered obsession for gorgeous colors, sumptuous layering of soft velvet ,linen and other luxury natural fiber fabrics and all at great value and all made in USA.
